Jacob Marley died in 1836 at the age of 53 (born 1783)
In Charles Dickens' book "A Christmas Carol", it is not stated just how Scrooge's business partner, Jacob Marley died. All that is known is that he died seven years prior to the events of the story.
He is Scrooge's partner, his sole administrator, his sole assign, etc. It's in the book on the bottom of the first page. I don't know when he died, I'm trying to figure that out too.
Christmas Eve 1837
He had been dead 7 years at the start of the story which was written in 1843. Therefore its assumed that Marley died Christmas 1836
There were four in total. The very first was the ghost of his dead business partner Jacob Marley. Jacob is allowed back to the realm of the living to warn Scrooge that his miserly nasty ways will see him die soon and his afterlife would be spent like Marley's in everlasting torment. To that end Marley foretells of 3 more visitations all of whom would seek to help Scrooge make the changes that would see his life and after life change
Scrooge was to see his own demise. He witnesses peoples reaction to his passing and sees that he will die a very lonely man and in doing so suffer eternal torment as did his partner Jacob Marley before him
