It operates using a spring-loaded mechanism that automatically adjusts belt tension as it stretches or wears over time. This ensures consistent performance without manual adjustment.
auto store usually special order for a timing belt tensioner or belt tensioner
The 2005 Nissan Altima auto tensioner pulley can be removed by removing the center bolt. You will need to hold the pulley stationary while you loosen the bolt.
Moving clockwise starting at the Alternator pulley - over power steering pump - down under compressor pulley - over to torsional damper - around damper to auto tensioner - around auto tensioner - back to alternator pulley.
Loosen the tensioner pulley. Put the belt around the alternator pulley and the tensioner pulley. Move the tensioner pulley to the right until the belt is tight. Tighten the tensioner pulley.
The tensioner is located in the front of the engine on top, its the small pulley that is smooth. the adjuster is to the right of the pulley right behind it. I think its a 15 or 16mm socket that fits it.
alternator, ac comp, auto tensioner, harmonic balancer, idler
The 1998 Dodge Dakota tensioner pulley will be the top pulley on the left-hand side of the engine. The tensioner pulley will be able to slide back and forth.
Loosen the tensioner pulley. When the tensioner pulley is loose the belt will come off. Put the new belt on and tighten the tensioner pulley.
One bolt holds the tensioner to the engine, take it off to get the tensioner off and then you can get to the bolt that holds the pulley to the tensioner.
Facing the engine the tensioner will be on left side of engine. There is an idler pulley that looks like the tensioner. The idler will have a smooth surface but the tensioner will have grooves on the pulley & should below the idler. If the tensioner is making noise etc it is prob just the tensioner pulley (grooved one) & you can get just the pulley. Big savings.
On the tensioner, sometimes it has a cover on the tensioner that covers the bolt.
If your car has a serpentine belt it will have a tensioner pulley. A tensioner pulley is easy to spot. All of your bolt on accessories i.e. water pump, alternator, a/c compressor etc. will have a pulley to run each one. There will be 2 other types of pulleys, a idler pulley and a tensioner. The idler pulley will be a single stationary pulley with a bolt going through the middle and the tensioner pulley will be on a spring loaded piviot.
