Camouflage, predation, and reproduction number high on the list of what leaf bugs do to survive. The insects in question try to escape predation by natural enemies through foliage-like coloration. They also will feed upon other food chain and food web members in order to complete life cycles and natural histories which culminate in ensuring future generations.
Contrary to popular belief the reason why stick insects 'drop their limbs' is not to escape death but actually in adhoc protest. It is not entirely clear what the protest maybe in aid of but recent studies show it may be due to other species of insect invading their territorial boundaries, essentially this could be as a self flagellatory racist gesture suggesting that the stick insect as a species has an innate longing for segregation. Strange but true...
The Paua is a bi-valve sea snail (abalone). To escape predation, they can use their body muscle to rapidly open and close their shell and produce water pressure sufficient to propel themselves out of harms way.
Competition: Introduced invasive species compete against native species for essential resources such as food and habitat.Predation: Introduced predators can have more impact on prey population than native predators, as prey may not have adaptions to escape or fight them.

Many insects, including flies, beetles, and true bugs, have evolved to mimic wasps (and bees) to reduce predation. Predatory animals learn that wasps give a painful sting if they are bothered or captured for food. The black and yellow markings of the wasp are soon recognized as a non-desirable meal. Other insects with similar markings also escape predation. These survive as proof of a successful evolutionary adaptation.
