It depends on a couple factors: Age, Breed & activity level. First 8 weeks to 9 months you should feed them twice a day. Once they hit 9 months you should reduce it to once a day. But if you have a larger dog you can increase.

The dog should be able to access food whenever she wants to eat, because not only does she have to recover from the pregnancy, but she also has to produce extra nutrients to include in her milk for the puppies. Lactation is the most nutrient demanding stage in a dogs life.
