Yes, in two ways: 1) It is very flammable and if used improperly it can burn you. 2) It is a poison (it is called wood alcohol) if you drink it it can kill you or injure you. This is why the government put a blue dye in it and give it a funny smell. Do not confuse it with Ethanol which is the alcohol in beer and wine : Meths = CH3OH, Ethanol = C2H5OH.

Are methylated spirits damaging to paint?
Depends on the paint. Enamel and lacquer should be OK for short exposure, but meths has a purple dye added to warn people off drinking it (which makes it taste foul) which may leave a stain on non-gloss surfaces or pale colours. Probably safer using propanol, but see if milder cleaners (Spray-n-Wipe) solve the problem first before resorting to meths. Meths smaller methanol molecules can eat easily into things, so propanol is a safer bet (for example, never use meths for tape recorder heads use propanol instead). Spectacle cleaning fluid is a good, safe, substitute for meths for cleaning difficult marks on most surfaces and is an excellent CD/DVD/Monitor cleaning fluid as well (use the same microfibre clothes used for spectacles and rinse and dry cloth in warm water between uses). As for acrylic paint(water-based) - alcohol will dissolve it, so meths will do a lot of damage.
Can surgical spirits be used for a fungal nail infection?
Many years ago my father used to soak cotton wool in meths and place it between his toes at night due to athelets foot. It really worked and kept fungus at bay. He had a bad case of it but only meths would work. I have heard that applying meths with cotton wool to toe nail fungus daily helps to cure it as the meths gives a very cooling sensation which alters the ph balance of the nail and fungi find it hard to survie. Its strong alcohol so I would imagine that it would kill any germ....
Where do you buy methyl hydrate?
Methyl Hydrate should be stored in a Plastic Bottle. Methyl Hydrate should not be stored in an Aluminum Container or Bottle as the Meths will corrode the Aluminum. Meths (Methyl Hydrate) should not be stored in an metal container. This is due to the reactive nature of this form of Alcohol. Meths should also not come into contact with Rubbers for Extended Periods of Time (for this definition I shall term Extended as 6 Months or More). Meths have been shown to degrade Rubber over repeated, and extended, exposure. Thus use of Rubber O-Rings, or Gaskets, or Seal Membranes, is also NOT RECOMMENDED. There are currently no 'container lacquers' to protect against the corrosive and reactive nature of Meths on Aluminum, or other metals. Hope this helps. (Side Note: If you have stored Methyl Hydrate in an Aluminum, or other metal container, immediately check for a "Gel like residue" and/or "Pitting inside the container", these are both primary indication that a reaction has started, and you should immediately dispose of the Methyl Hydrate to ensure no impurities have been dissolved in the liquid. If pitting is noticed and MINIMAL then IMMEDIATELY transfer the Liquid to a Plastic Pop Bottle, or another Plastic Container like a Margarine Tub, to hold the liquid until you can purchase a Storage Bottle (one without A Rubber O-Ring or Seal).) No, you cannot get "drunk" with anything else than alcohol. But for sure meth fumes can kill. They are extremely poisonous and even more flammable, so if the fumes don't kill you, the explossion surely will...
