The best way I've been told to allow your hair to grow (as well as done it myself), is to trim the ends every 6-8 weeks. If the ends are dead, then so is the process on hair growth. Just make sure to trim it dry, so as to not make it too short. This is because when hair is wet, it seems longer. I'm sure you've noticed how it shortens after drying. I have naturally curly hair and made the mistake of trimming it while wet.
