There are a number of qualifications one must have if they are interested in a CNC machinist job. Some of these qualifications include knowing the safety procedures of the job, comprehension of equipment maintenance, and knowing how to program the mills and lathes that are needed to perform the job.
I operate cnc lathes in the north east of england for an oil and gas flowline equipment provider. Im currently earning £12.35 per hour. With shift allowance for nightshift on top of that paid at time and a third.
The two major categories of machining are "conventional maching" and "CNC (computer numerical control) machining." The actual metal cutting process is the same. The difference is in how the tool path is controlled as it cuts the workpiece. "Conventional machining" (also known as "manual machining") is generally regarded as using manually controlled machines, particularly lathes, mills and drill presses. The tool moves around the work by mechanical controls that are manually controlled. "CNC machining" is generally regarded as using lathes and mills (and some other machine types) in which all tool and workpiece motion is controlled by a computer.
It's a make of controllers and drives for CNC machines.

A pipe threader is used to thread the inside of pipes with accessories such as a die head, either manually or with a machine. Die heads are usually used with lathes, turret lathes, CNC lathes, or screw machines.
When a company manufactures products in small batches, a CNC Lathe machine can help them produce a few products at a time rather than several at a time.
Harrison Lathe is a UK based company which manufactures comprehensive lathe machines. It sells Conventional (engine) Lathes. They also sell Manual or CNC Lathes.
A CNC machinist is a skilled Machinist who specializes in computer-controlled machines (lathes, mills, etc.). Traditionally, CNC machinists started their training with "manual" machines, but today many CNC machinists quickly transfer to CNC machines and never truly learn manual machining.
CNC, pertaining to industrial machinery, stands for Computer Numerically controlled machinery. The industry, in fact, everything you see, can hold, everything is manufactured on a machine. Most of which are CNC. CNC'sare basically lathes, mills with a computer control on it to load programs.
The best place to buy CNC machines are at Cleveland Tool and Die. They offer the best lathes and other tools. You could also try Kennedy Tool on Brookpark road.

Its normally cam driven (but can be CNC), It is effectively an AUTO MATic Capstan or lathe, they come in two flavours, single spindle (ie 1 bar of metal at a time) or multi spindle (normally 6 bars at a time). They were the pre-runners to CNC lathes and Emi-mec type plugboards and replaced capstan lathes for automated turned part production. Hope this helps Mike

First you need to know what kind of lathe you want to purchase, There are wood lathes and metal lathes. Lathes can be purchased at Harbor Freight and Sears.
