Christine Daae's sacrifice was her love.
In the movie, the Phantom ties Raoul to the gate and put's the lasso around his neck, and forces Christine to choose between him and Raoul.
If Christine chose the Phantom, they would be married and Raoul would remain alive.
If Christine chose Raoul, the Phantom would kill Raoul.
Christine chose Erik and kissed him, Erik feeling such emotion rise let's Daae go free, including Raoul. They leave Erik and he smashes all the mirrors. He leaves through a tunnel behind one of them.
In the book, Christine must turn the Scorpion Casket to be married and let everyone live.
If she didn't turn it in two minutes, he'd turn the Grasshopper Casket and the whole Opera with everyone inside would explode, including most of Paris.
Raoul talks to her through the wall, he tells her not to turn the casket. But before Erik could turn the Grasshopper, she turns the Scorpion Casket to save Raoul. The casket released water that flooded the tunnel with the barrels of gunpowder in it, smothering it so it wouldn't explode. Raoul and the Persian man nearly drown. The Persian man tells to Erik, reminding him that he saved him years ago from execution. Erik retrieves the men, and when he wakes up, Raoul is asleep on the couch and Christine is sent to fetch a hot drink. The next part was confusing... Erik took Raoul and chained him a dungeon (From what I gather.) and Christine kisses Erik. Erik comes to the Persian man and doesn't make sense, he keeps saying Christine kissed him. (I'm going to assume when she did, he freed Christine and Raoul. And they left.)
Erik is announced dead a few weeks later, his love for her killed him.
