∙ 8y agoOctavian became the ruler of Rome by emerging as the victor of the civil wars which tore Rome apart and brought down the Roman Republic. The final of these wars was a contest between Marc Antony and Octavian over who would become the sole ruler. Octavian won and gained control of the Roman legions. He also amassed a fortune with the spoils of war and used this for patronage. The Roman senate had to accept his rule, which was formalized thought concessions to the senate by Octavian.
