It's mostly due to the rain that washes them off. They will often stay out in the open in the rain, not in a forested area, and allow the rain to wash them off. They aren't exactly clean though, since they still retain a lot of dirt and dust in their hair, but most of it is rubbed off enough that they don't appear dirty.
