When Moses was brought up by the Egyptions he was taught about their false God's. If you remember he was brought up by his mother who was hired to look after him. It was she who would have taught him about God. He was only able to teach the the people, he could not make them believe, he had to leave that up to the individual to seek out this spoken of god by prayer and fasting. One must also remember that the people of Moses, were for the most, believers in God, even after being slaves to the Egyptions for many years their faith never wavered.
Moses problem was really to turn those who had lost their faith back to God.

When the Egyptians followed Moses , to the Red sea and they tried to follow the people, god drowned the Egyptians in the sea.
