What causes homelessness?

In wealthy countries such as the United States and Canada, chemical addiction to hard drugs such as crystal meth plays a huge role in causing homelessness. Meth and other powerful, chemically addictive drugs are a major factor in homelessness both directly and indirectly. Hard drugs cause homelessness directly when addicts are evicted from their homes because of excessive violence, property damage or neglecting to pay their rent. Hard drugs also further contribute to homeless in non addicts because the behaviour and lifestyle of the chemically addicted homeless causes stigmatization and negative stereotypes among low income families. In a nutshell: Hard drugs pretty much destroy people who are addicted while giving the rest of the low income community a "bad name." While hard drugs are not the only cause of homelessness, chemical addiction does play a major role.

How are homeless people being treated?

Homeless people are often marginalized and face discrimination, lack of access to basic services such as healthcare and sanitation, and can be victims of violence. Many organizations and individuals work to provide support and resources to homeless populations, but there is still much work to be done to address the root causes of homelessness and provide sustainable solutions.
