Here's a clip from Temple University's home page: "Founded in 1884 by Dr. Russell Conwell as an informal adult-education outgrowth of his Baptist Temple ministry, Temple College was chartered in 1888 and was incorporated as Temple University in 1907." [The rest of the story is that Rev. Conwell was pastor of Grace Baptist Church, which was known as The Baptist Temple.
