When a snake eats it will first of all strike. Constrictor snakes coil around the prey and suffocate it. Poisonous snakes would obviously inject their poison via their fangs. Once the prey is subdued the snake dislocates it's jaw and swallows the prey whole. The digestive enzyymes in the snake then break down the food. Because a snakes process of digestion is very slow they only need to eat once a week and some can go even longer without eating.

hope this helped
