A sundial works like this: 1. Place a stick in a pot filled with sand 2. Put the sundial in a sunny place 3. Go out every hour and put a marking in the sand at the place of the shadow. Write the time next to it 4. The next day, you can see at which marking the shadow is, and thus what time it is.
It was used to tell time of what time of year it is. Not what time it is during the day.
to tell what time of day it is
yeah the time of year but not time of day
A sundial is a way to tell time without a clock. It uses the sun and positions of shadows to tell the time. These are fairly accurate.
ancient people sed constellations civilizations ago to tell time, not time in a day rather to tell when to sow, harvest and etc. this was successful for the time as constellations were patterns in the sky and important ones, those used to tell time, were easily remembered.
Unfortunately, a sundial relies on the position of the sun's shadow to tell time, so it isn't possible to accurately tell time using a sundial on a cloudy day when the sun is obscured.
Invention of the ClockOne form of clock was first invented in Egypt. They used the water clock to tell time as they had no electricity. Clocks that used falling weights or pendulums appeared in Europe during the 13th century. Earlier civilizations used sundials to tell time during the day.
The sun dial was used for telling time. The sundial would cast a shadow so people know what time of day it was by where the shadow fell.
