Natural selection means that only the fittest survive. The fittest are usually defined as those with the characteristics, or adaptations, that allow them to survive longer in a certain environment. In this way, they are selected by nature to reproduce and pass those adaptations on to their offspring, while animals who are not able to adapt or lack the necessary qualities to survive will die without reproducing, thus eliminating their genes from the gene pool. The idea is that eventually, you will end up with a population where only certain adaptations that are perfect for surviving in the given environment are present.

How are evolution and natural selection related?

Natural selection is one of the mechanisms that shapes adaptation and enables evolution.

Adaptation which allows for natural selection is called?

Adaptation does not allow for natural selection: natural selection causes adaptation.

Is natural selection a form of adaptation?

Natural selection is what causes adaptation.

What is adaptation and how is it related to natural selection?

Adaptation is changes in the overall physiological makeup of a population of organisms that bestow increased reproductive fitness on the population. Natural selection causes adaptation by favouring variants with increased reproductive fitness over less reproductively successful variants.

Why is adaptation essential to understanding natural selection?

Because adaptation is the directly visible result of natural selection.

Is adaptation a cause of natural selection?

No, it's exactly the other way around: natural selection causes adaptation.

What is the relationship between adaptation and natural section?

Here is a quote: "The relationship between adaptation and natural selection does not go both ways. Whereas greater relative adaptation leads to natural selection, natural selection does not necessarily lead to greater adaptation." I do not recall who said it, but this is what the relationship between both is. Here is a quote: "The relationship between adaptation and natural selection does not go both ways. What is the degree of adaptation to a specific environment?

Natural Selection.

Which mechanism of evolution can cause adaptation?

Natural selection.

What is the difference between adaptation and natural selection?

Adaptation is a trait that helps an organism survive and reproduce in its environment, while natural selection is the process by which organisms with advantageous adaptations are more likely to survive and pass on their genes to the next generation. In other words, adaptation is the result of natural selection.
