I think it's because Dolphins speak (squeaks, singing, whatever you want to call it) out and it will rebound off of other animals/dolpins to see how close they are or how close the enemy is, whatever it wants to know. And this is the same with a bat - it uses its sonar to reflect off of the other bats or animals.
