Cold-blooded animals cannot regulate their own body temeprature and rely on the climate around them to keep them warm. Warm-blooded animals can regualte their own body temperature. Thats why a snake ( which is cold-blooded) is more active under a heat lamp than if he had none. That's why you will see mammals out in the snow sometimes and not snakes.

Mammals have hair of some sort and cold blooded most of the times don't.
