dance competions vary on scoring. I have competed since i was in 7th grade and i have found that there is not really a specific way. One is that everyone will get a trophy and it doesn't matter if you do good or bad. Second is competing against yourself what i mean by this is that it doesn't matter if you are the only one in your category if you earn enough points for third place you will get 3rd and not first. Lastly is by saying gold, silver, platinum etc. This is typically called one of these each of them have a certain score that you have to get in order to get this place all dance competions are different when it comes to the rankings of these. I actually forgot one other way and that is the top three scores will only get trophy. Meaning that sometimes you could have scored first place based on the points you earned but compared to the other people in your category they might have also gotten first but there points were higher than yours.
