Earthquakes are detected by using a seismograph
Depending on your distance from the earthquakes epicentre you may be able to feel the ground motions caused by the seismic waves. If the Earthquake is powerful and releases a lot of energy (it has a large magnitude) this ground motion may be very severe and cause damage to buildings and other infrastructure.
If the earthquake is of a low magnitude or occurs a long distance away, then you will require a sensitive piece of equipment known as a seismometer to detect the seismic waves.
Seismic waves are detected by seismometers (the term seismograph is used to describe the equipment which plots the data recorded by the seismometer. It may also be used to describe the combined detection and plotting equipment).
Seismometers are instruments which are designed to measure either the amplitude or acceleration of the ground surface as caused by seismic waves before, during and after an earthquake.
Earthquakes are primarily detected using seismometers. These are very sensitive instruments which can measure the vibrations as seismic waves travel through the Earth.
These instruments are able to record the frequency and amplitude of the seismic waves and this information can be used to calculate the earthquakes magnitude (how much energy the earthquake had).

using a seismograph that draws a graph showing any tremors big or small.
Rods and wiring are place in the ground to transfer the shaking to a machine called a Seismograph.
Using a seismometer.
it is measured by
by seismograph
The energy released by earthquakes take the form of seismic waves which travel through the ground. These are detected by a seismograph. Based on the amplitude of the seismic waves measured by the seismograph the earthquakes strength can be calculated (to give a value on the Richter scale). Large earthquakes can cause permanent displacements / deformation at the Earth's surface whereby the change in position of an object can be detected using GPS.
it is how earthquakes are measured.
Richter scale measures the magnitude of earthquakes.
Floods are measured by the height the waters reach. They are Detected my using "Gages" they are forecasted by gathering all the data and putting it into one big piece of information.

they are measured by a Richter scale
it is how earthquakes are measured.
Because they are detected by seismometers.
All earthquakes are measured on either the Richter scale or the Mercalli scale.
Magnitude
Earthquakes are measured using a seisometer which detects tilts/movements of the plates within the earthquakes Charlotte x
The intensity of earthquakes is measured on the Richter Scale.
Earthquakes are monitered by a device called a Richter Scale.
They are measured on the Richter Scale, if you are talking about the magnitude
The Mercalli scale.
