they share a common ancestor that is extinct, this common ancestor was a lesser ape, we are therefore as close theoretically as to orangutan and gorrilla, however our DNA is 98.9% identical to Chimps, do not be fooled though, we are 40% identical to dandilions!!! a few percent can make a big difference
Humans, chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans are members of the Hominidae family.
Around 6 million years ago, the evolution of Chimpanzees ceased but human evolution continued to become Homo Sapiens.
Pan troglodytes (Common Chimpanzee) and Pan paniscus (Bonobo) are the two extant chimpanzee species of ape in the genus Pan, and they are the closest living relatives to humans.
"Cousins" is pretty strong, since the most recent common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees probably lived about 5-7 million years ago, meaning that 100,000th cousins (probably many thousands of times removed, since chimps have shorter generational times than humans do) would be a significant overestimate of how closely related we actually are.
By contrast, even conservative estimates suggest that you probably share a common ancestor with someone from the opposite side of the planet as recently as perhaps 1500 BC, meaning you're in the vicinity of 150th cousins at most with every other human on the planet (and figures in the 50s are pretty common guesses using less conservative estimates) with the possible exception of certain extremely isolated populations such as the Sentinelese.
They are more closely related to humans than they are Gorillas. This is because the common ancestor of chimps and humans lived long after the common ancestor of chimps and gorillas.
Its all in the genes...
Chimpanzee
Homo sapiens(Modern humans are Homo sapiens sapiens, other subspecies include Homo sapiens idaltu.)
Homo sapiens are humans, characterized by their bipedal posture, large brains, and high level of cognitive abilities. They are part of the primate order within the animal kingdom.
Homo sapiens are not extinct. Homo sapiens are humans. Modern humans, in fact.
Australian aborigines, like all modern human populations, belong to the Homo sapiens sapiens species. Neanderthals were a separate species of hominins that went extinct around 40,000 years ago.
Homo sapiens Homo sapiens
Homo sapiens sapiens faced challenges such as climate change, competition for resources, predation, and the spread of disease. They also had to develop social structures and communication to survive and thrive in different environments.
Homo heidelbergensis were early humans who lived approximately 600,000 to 200,000 years ago. They had a large brain size, similar to modern humans, and robust facial features. They were likely tall and had a sturdy build.
Homo sapiens, human species name
The only living species of Homo sapiens is Homo sapiens sapiens, which includes all modern humans. Other species within the genus Homo, such as Homo neanderthalensis and Homo habilis, are now extinct.
Homo sapiens are modern Humans. We are still around.
That depends on the time period. We are Homo sapiens sapiens.
