Originally, fungi were grouped with plants.
In classifying organisms, orders are grouped together into classes. Classes are then grouped together into phyla (or divisions for plants), which are further grouped into kingdoms.
They are placed in kingdoms AND domains based on their cell type, if they have the ability to make food, and the number of cells in their body.
