Aspheric lenses are very good for individuals with a strong eyeglass prescription because they can be made thinner and lighter than conventional lenses.
According to Wikipedia, today's lenses are typically made from plastic, such as polycarbonate. Plastic is used in order to lessen the chance of breakage.
Eyeglass lenses could be made of nearly any plastic or glass. For example, some glasses lens, such as my own, are made of a plastic called polycarbonate which is the material used to make bulletproof glass so my glasses are impact resistant. Other eyeglass lenses can be made from other plastics and glasses such as CR-39, Homopolyer and crown glass.
What is eyeglass prescription and where can I get one? An eyeglass prescription is a written order by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, orthoptist or an optician for eyeglasses. It specifies the refractive power to which the eyeglasses are to be made in order to correct blurred vision due to refractive errors, including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. It is required by law your optometrist provide you with eyeglass prescription after an eye exam. Be sure to ask for a clear and legible copy from them. You can just visit glassesshop.com online to find more detial information in its help center.
High-index lenses are an alternative choice to standard, plastic eyeglass lenses. Although high-index lenses are more expensive than plastic lenses, they can reduce the thickness and weight of an eyeglass lens, particularly for individuals with a strong prescription. High-index lenses are able to bend light to a stronger degree than a lens with a lower index, therefore the higher the index of the lens the less material needed to achieve a given prescription. High index lenses are categorized according to how strongly they bend light. The higher the index, 1.53 to 1.74 for high-index lenses, the better the lens is at bending light. High index lenses are 20 percent to 65 percent thinner than standard plastic lenses. In general, the stronger the prescription, the greater the difference in thickness between standard plastic and high-index plastic. A reduction in lens thickness and weight will occur in high-index lenses for prescriptions stronger than +2.00 or -2.50. Weaker prescriptions are not thinner than standard lenses when made with high-index materials. Polycarbonate lenses offer the same aesthetic benefits as high-index lenses, but polycarbonate lenses scratch easier, are difficult to coat or tint and are more likely to create distortions in colors and vision.
The telescope was invented when an eyeglass maker held two lenses up and looked through both of them. They made everything look much larger.
Decorative contact lenses are often made from cheaper materials. They have a much shorter wear time than prescription lenses and let less air through to the eye. Also- they do not come in the same wide range of shaps and sizes as prescription lenses so you are less likely to find a comfortable fit. Only ever buy contat lenses from an Optical practice and never wear any lenses that haven't been fitted by an Optometrist or qualifies contact lens fitter.
Lenses can be custom made in any prescription, but most soft lens companies manufacture a range of the most common prescriptions, between +8.00 to -8.00 and others range from -20.00 to - 20.00.

Has your prescription changed, or do you you feel you need to get a new prescription. If not you should be able to find places that can make progressive lenses using your old glasses. They just need to get your prescription somehow.
