They can cure inherited genetic diseases by taking the faulty gene out of the person's DNA, and replacing the faulty gene with a healthy gene. This way the person is not only cured from the disease, but any future generations in that person's family won't be affected either, because the faulty gene will have been removed altogether.

Viruses can be used as a vector to carry and transfer normal functional gene. It is used to replace mutant (non-functional) gene. Thus it can be used in gene therapy for genetic diseases. Adeno and Retro viruses are most widely used ones.

Genetic diseases in theory can be cured by analysing what is different between pathogenic (illness-causing) versions and "healthy" versions. It is then possible to package the correct gene and deliver it to the affected cells, erasing the disease.

The problem is that modifying every cell in the body would be very risky, so the modification has to be targeted only to the cell types which crucially need the correct gene in order to stop the disease. Because every disease affects different cell types, this means that a new method of targeting only the affected cells needs to be developed for every disease. Once a method has been found for this, the correct genes can be delivered to the cells in different ways, for example using viruses or nanoparticles.

It's important for scientists to be able to remove DNA from an organism because it'll help scientists identify genetic disorders or diseases.

Why is urine used as a sample over blood when testing for genetic metabolic disorders?

Urine is the preferred sample when testing for acidemia in metabolic disorders. The general researchers says that the metabolites appear in urine first and take longer to be detected in blood, making the urine sample as the preferred sample for screening and diagnosis of rare 100 metabolic disorders. Metabolites appear first in the urine and later in the blood, making pre-symptomatic detection of metabolic disorders possible from urine sample. Its a Non-invasive process for screening of metabolic disorders, hence its Baby-friendly. Therapy and Management of these disorders at its earliest will help to curb any damage to the baby.

Why would a drug that damages capsids help treat a viral infection?

capsids prevent viral infections apex they stop viral infections from reproducing

Why did researchers originally think that protein was the genetic material?

Researchers originally thought that protein was the genetic material because proteins had specific functions with great heterogeneity. Enzyme holds DNA strands apart because of a single stranded binding protein.

How does the hiv virus mutate?

As with all viruses and living things, random errors occur when HIV replicates its genetic material during reproduction. Changes in the genetic material then change characteristics of the virus, which may help or harm it depending on its environment. HIV is particularly prone to mutation because it is a retrovirus, meaning it carries its genetic material as RNA and reverse transcribes it into DNA when it infects a cell. Reverse transcription has a higher rate of mutation than ordinary DNA or RNA replication.

Can hypercoagulation disorders be prevented?

Hereditary hypercoagulation disorders may not be prevented. Genetic and blood testing may help determine a person's tendency to develop these disorders

What uses viruses to help people with genetic disorders?

Gene therapy is designed to introduce genetic material into cells to compensate for abnormal genes, or to make a beneficial protein. If a mutated gene causes a necessary protein to be faulty or missing, gene therapy may be able to introduce a normal copy of the gene, restoring the function of the protein. Viruses are used in gene therapy as vectors that are genetically engineered to deliver the new copy of the gene by infecting the cell.

Why would a pedigree be an important tool for counselors?

Genetic counselors use a pedigree to look closely at a person's genetic history. Often knowing the family history of genetic diseases can help a couple to minimize the risk of having a baby with a life-threatening illness.
