The Ramayana and Mahabharatha are two different books. In both Lord Vishnu takes a human form to stop evil, in the ramayana, vishnu takes the form of Rama, to stop the evil ravana. Hinduism has the beliefs of the existence of avatars. The avatar for them is the reincarnation of their preserver god Vishnu which preserves the balance in the world. There were even festivals held in commemoration of the avatars. One commonly known and much famous avatar is Rama. You will know more about Rama in the Indian epic Ramayana.
