Vascular dementia is caused when there is a problem in the supply of blood between the heart and the brain. It is because of the clogging of the blood vessel and usually happens after a stroke.
Vascular dementia is caused by vascular leasons in the brain. It is the second most common type of demintia next to alzhiemers and is commonly seen with a secondary diagnosis of alzhiemers.
The three main irreversible causes are Alzheimer's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multi-infarct dementia (also called vascular dementia).

There are more than 80 different types of dementia. The most common are Alzheimer's, Vascular Dementia and Frontal Temporal Dementia.
