On the top label above window where you play with you farm, click on the icon Add Neighbors. There you can see if there are any of your friends that are already playing farmville on there. In order to add them, you need to send a request to be their neighbor. To do that click on "Add <friends name> as Neighbor" and a pop-up will come up to confirm your request. Repeat with other friends you see on there. Then wait to see if they accept the friend request or not.
