If you take a duck home and have a pond for it to live in, keep it in its home (sheds etc will do fine but search for directions on how to get a better home. Helen Putland wrote an excellent book on care for ducks). Once the duck has settled in let it waddle around free range and let it swim in the pond when it likes.
It should at least be able to swim, fly, and know how to defend it self.It should be at least medium size and just a little over 6-8 months when u let it go at a pond or something.
