A boat can be small enough to hold only one person, or can be large enough to carry several, or dozens of people. There really isn't any firm dividing line between "boat" and "ship".

A raft is a floating platform of a shape that does not have a specific "front" or "back" orientation. In many cases, rafts are anchored in place and unpowered; in some cases, the raft may have either a sail or small engine that isn't built into the raft. For example, a raft may have an outboard motor attached. Some rafts have made astonishing and historical voyages; for example, the balsa wood raft named "Kon Tiki" carried a half-dozen men from the coast of South America to the Polynesian island of Raroia. More often, rafts are used to float downstream on a river. Small rafts may be 4 to 5 feet across, or may be dozens of feet across.
