The Empire State Building became the world's tallest skyscraper in 1931. At 102 stories and 1,454 feet tall, it bested the Chrysler Building by only four hundred feet. It is one of the largest occupied stuctures (by total volume) in the United States.

After the destruction of the World Trade Center towers in 2001, the Empire State Building was again the tallest building in Manhattan, and remains one of the 15 tallest occupiedstructures in the world. In the Americas, only the Willis Tower and Trump Tower are taller.
