The Australian Outback cannot be described simply. Parts of it are flat, with bushland and/or scrubby bushes varying from sparse to dense. Other parts may be comprised of rocky or bald hills or plateaus, or low mountains well covered in vegetation. It can be harsh country, sometimes covered in floods for weeks on end. Other times, there may be dust storms that sweep across the land.

Emus, kangaroos, eagles, cockatoos and a variety of other wildlife can be seen. the vegetation is not bright green, but generally has grey-green foliage.
