The tallest tree in Africa is a Rose Gum tree (Eucalyptus saligna) of 79 metres standing in a grove of tall trees in Woodbush Estate near Tzaneen, Limpopo Province, South Africa. These trees have been planted by AK Eastwood in 1906 as part of a commerical tree plantation. The whole stand of trees have been declared protected as part of the Champion Tree Project of South Africa. The tallest tree in that stand, and the second tallest standing next to it (78.5 metres), have been measured by professional tree climbers in 2008, and are known as the Twin Giants of Magoebaskloof. As far as could be ascerted this stand of trees is also the tallest planted trees in the world.

There are about 7 billion trees in Africa, not counting the continent's major woodlands like the Congo rainforest. -2021
