15 gigabytes of free hard drive space is recommended, I believe. My program is currently using 17.2 gigabytes of my hard drive.
A brand new installation of World of Warcraft, updated to the most current patch, will take up around 15 gigabytes. This does not include any addons.
yes any download will. it takes up a few GB to be exact
Yes, it needs ALOT of space on your hard drive. You have to INSTALL the game in order to play the game. The CD just contains the installer.
it might have to be contiguous space ( uninterupted ) defrag your hard drive and try again
For World of Warcraft this is certainly possible, since it doesn't need to be in a fixed location to run. Even on a flash drive, ssd or smart/thumb drive, as long as it's connected to a PC it can run. If the drive itself isn't fast enough to properly run the game you may need to copy it to a PC, but otherwise its location doesn't matter.
Yes, you need a Battle.net account to play World of Warcraft. A while ago Blizzard required that all World of Warcraft accounts be merged to Battle.net accounts.

you can buy a hard copy of the game in any good game shop but you will still need to download patches and updates.
