You don't, the English Bulldog standard requires the breed to have small rears and big heads- this inturn makes the delivery of puppies very difficult. The safest thing to do for the mother bulldog and her puppies, is to schedule an appointment with a qualified vetrinarian to perform a c-section when she is due. This is what responsible breeders do to lower the risk of mortality when whelping English Bulldog puppies.

Playthings aside, there is no such thing as a toy or miniature English Bulldog- this is not an accepted variety by the American Kennel Club. The idea of a kid bulldog is certainly appealing, but no such breed has been evolved- or if it does exist- it has not been accepted by the Kennel Club, which is the big authority in Dogdom. The Pit Bull is also not a recognized breed.

When is it to late to breed your English bulldog?
Special note for English bulldogs - this breed of dog still exists primarily because veterinarians are available to perform C-sections for the puppies to be born. The narrow hips of the breed combined with the relatively large head size means the female is often unable to deliver the puppies through the birth canal - they are too big for the space. If you are planning on breeding an English bulldog, you need to plan carefully so that a veterinarian is available to perform the C-section on an emergency basis if needed. Most English bulldog breeders schedule the C-section when they know the female's breeding date. When your English bulldog no longer shows signs of heat (in the female) or has decreasing semen quality (in the male), that is when it is too late. Otherwise, most dogs can be successfully bred for most of their adult lives.
