The heart muscle pumps blood in and out of it. It draws in oxygenated blood from the lungs. It sends it around the body through the largest blood vessel through the aorta. That large vessel feeds the arteries to the brain and down through the center of the body. It is then sent to peripheral arteries and capillaries that send oxygen, cells, nutrients and water to the limbs, hands and feet. There is return blood that has been filtered through the liver and kidneys. Then the lungs get blood back and the carbon dioxide is removed.
