Well when you moke basically you are filling your lungs with smoke and causes oxygen to decrease in your lungs and you to breathe slower.
while you smoke your pulse rate increases
Based on my own experience, cigarette smoking does have a slight effect on heart rate and blood pressure. Alcohol, caffeine, exercise, heat, stress, certain medications are everyday triggers for increased heart rate (and more so than cigarette smoking from my experience) and the effect can be cummulative for any combination of the above. (ho I am not a health professional)
Nicotine increases your heart rate. The menthol is insubstantial.
A human's breathing rate can be affected by factors such as physical activity, emotional state, environmental conditions (such as altitude or air quality), and health conditions like asthma or pneumonia. Stress and anxiety can also influence breathing rate.
I have found that it can actually make me dizzy and lightheaded. When I lived at high elevations above 6,000 ft, I often couldn't do yoga poses where my head would go below my heart without needing to stop.

The breathing rate and pulse rate are related proportionally. If the breathing rate increases, so does the pulse rate. The pulse rate is an indication of the breathing rate.
Nicotine and other chemicals in the smoke constrict blood vessels throughout the body. Blood and oxygen can't move as easily through narrowed blood vessels, increasing the likelihood of heart disease or stroke. The poor circulation can also make a smoker's fingers and hands cold. When a smoker inhales cigarette smoke, these chemicals enter the bloodstream and reach the brain in less than 10 seconds. It takes only 15 to 20 seconds for nicotine to reach every part of a smoker's body. At this speed, the effects of tobacco are felt almost instantly.it slows the flow of oxygen throughout the body.
what does rate breathing indicate
When nicotine exerts its effect on the heart, the pulse rate of the smoker will increase while smoking the cigarette. A consequence of the pulse rate increasing is that the nicotine will raise the smoker's blood pressure.
