What is MS DOS Shell
We can not perform Shell Scripting in DOS, we can do Batch programing in DOS..
MS-DOS ended with Windows NT. It used file command.com to interpret all DOS commands. Win 2000, XP, Vista use a DOS Shell which emulates DOS but is not really DOS.
DOS is just the operating system just like Windows XP. DOS SHELL is a program in DOS in which you can browse files and open them, etc. Just generally an easier way to move around the DOS operating system

I'm not sure if its a soft boot but Ctrl+Alt+Del will reboot the machine when using DOS. It probably is a soft boot.
In DOS, there is only one user which is Administrator as DOS is a single user Operating System.. When we talk of DOS shell integrated with Windows, the Windows Administrator is then also the DOS Administrator..

There is no any software for MSDOS shell as MSDOS is itself a system software.
Any version of Windows does not support DOS OS.. It only gives us the DOS shell.. However you can check the version by "ver" command in DOS prompt..
DOS by default is not capable of multi-tasking. However, there are some shell and TSRs designed to allow you to switch between different DOS apps.
