To cope with depression you should go and see a doctor, or talk to somebody who you trust . Think about positive things and the rest of your future. Treat yourself.

  • I was really depressed. I went to see my doctor and she put me on Prozac it really helps me. I could not stop crying. I am so much better. Talk to your doctor. I went with Prozac because it has the least side effects. I have been feeling so much better and no more PMS.
  • With experience in the area I can say that talking to somebody is probably the best thing, not only for you but for others people when you're depressed. Also I was put on Wellbutrin and Lexapro for months and I feel great. Talk to somebody you trust about it (not necessarily just a friend) because I can assure you that it will probably help.
  • Sometimes with depression you have to realize medication isn't always an option. Medication should only be considered if you have seen a psychologist and have talked about strategies you may use to cope then if this still doesn't work you should then ask your psychologist whether they think its a good idea for you to go to you GP and ask whether they will prescribe you medication.

Some ways to cope better include:

  • Going to see a psychologist
  • If needed using medication'
  • But any other ways i don't know as i suffer it and when your going into a state of deep depression if you don't catch it early there's nothing to do. So a good idea is for you to know yourself and then things you start to do like becoming fidgety when you are going down the track for a bad period. If you catch the early warning signs you can often if you try pull yourself out of the cycle.

Depression is known to get better with exercice, and meeting people... Often a depressed person withdraws from friends and family and loose intererst in training. If you can it is important that you try to follow usual routines as much as you can, eat healthy food and sleep regurlary. Especially if it is a seasonal depression getting daylight is important. In Germany St: John's worth is often used an intitial medical treatment for depressions.

I was first diagnosed with major depressive disorder about 5 years ago and then bipolar about 2 years ago. I have way more depressive episodes than i have manic episodes (which are usually periods of extreme irritability). I pretty much deal with depression on a daily basis. I have a hard time taking my medication regularly (especially since i have to take them 3 times a day) which is no no #1... if you are suffering from depression and happen to be on medication it is in your best interest to continue until your doctor tells you otherwise.... just because you feel better doesn't mean you are it means the medication is working....#2 it is more than helpful to have some one to talk to and i don't mean a friend i mean a professional... personally i feel you should have both a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Your psychiatrist is there to monitor your mood and prescribe medication accordingly its a good rule of thumb to see them at least every 3 months if not more especially if you are going through an episode. a psychologist or therapist i feel is crucial! I see mine about once every week or two.... it helps so much to be able to talk things out and when suffering from depression cognitive therapy is essential... it helps change the way you perceive things... it also helps you to decipher the bad thoughts from the good thoughts... #3 go for a walk... not only does exercising release endorphins but you'll also feel better about yourself because you will eventually look better and be healthier... also being outside does wonders for depression there's something about the vitamin e (i think that's it) from the natural sunlight that just makes you feel better plus its nice to get a healthy glow from the sun instead of being pasty white sitting under florescent lights....#4 take on responsibilities and be independent... it feels good to do things on your own and be responsible... it could be anything from cleaning the house... learning how to cook for yourself... paying your own bills... or just getting out of bed and accomplishing something, anything! take a shower and get dressed! it's amazing how hard that can be sometimes but how much it makes you feel better... the key is to take one day at a time and one step at a time never overwhelm yourself... also getting a pet could be helpful because it makes you responsible for something and gives you company when you feel alone but if you're really depressed its not the best answer because animals are a lot of responsibility and need a lot of attention this is not the time to be focusing on anything but getting better and you are likely to neglect your pet believe me I've done it and its not fair to them.... #5 keep yourself busy as hard as it is sometimes participate in activities... college really helps me because it gets me out of my bed and going to class makes me feel productive because i am doing something besides sleeping... find a hobby especially something creative because its a good emotional outlet and you have something to show for it... make small daily goals for yourself like call a friend or wash your car... start off with one goal and then keep adding more... #6 if all else fails and you're still depressed especially if you have suicidal thoughts there is nothing wrong with checking yourself into psychiatric facility. I went to one for four days because my parents made me.... going into it i hated it... i felt like if i went it meant that i really was crazy but by the end of the four days i didn't want to leave... i think about going back all the time now... if it wasn't for the money and the fact that I'm in school i would go back regularly... not only is it good because you can figure out what kind of medications work best for you while being under the supervision of a doctor but you learn coping skills and do exercises that really help you get to know yourself and help you reflect on your illness... also you learn more about your illness there is always someone there to answer your questions... and you meet people who are just like you or sometimes worse... it makes you realize you are not alone in the world and it makes you appreciate your life... its just a time to do nothing but focus on you and getting better... i hope this helps some.
you must go out of your home, go to the nearest old age home or hospital and see if you can make yourself useful, this will make you think of other people instead of how miserable you feel yourself, also you can go to an animal l shelter and help out there as well, there are plenty of people and animals who are a lot worse off than yourself, try this advice and let me know how you cope!.

A combination of medication and therapy seems to be the most successful treatment available at present. Some people find that meditation is very helpful.

medication is important, but getting regular exercise, meeting new friends and being optomistic is key. set yourself little targets each day, even if they are really daily and nothing too elaborate. things like, walking the dog, having a look around town and buying something for yourself. remember, rewarding yourself is also good as it makes you feel good inside. clear up the house, have a shower and say, today is new day. try and also accomplish something, like do some sort of hobby and get good at it. perhaps it could be like, improving your fitness. anything to help you get you feeling good again. most importantly; dont go into the path of drugs and alcohol.- this makes it worse. overall- the way to enjoy life is to not think about it. by getting into a routine, you can overcome your worries, loneliness, previous relationships and more. talk to friends as this is important and remember to just be positive!

Therapists, in my opinion, are useless quacks that regurgitate cliches and just want your money, but perhaps talking to someone you trust might help, like friends and/or family? I use writing as a form of therapy to deal with my depression but everyone is different. Some medications could work too. Good luck.

Depression can result from a number of different sources at any age. Some prescription medications can cause serious depression in young people, and should be carefully monitored by a medical professional. Depression can result from a number of physiological diseases, such as mononucleosis or chronic abdominal illness. Normal grief and sadness from personal loss or trauma may not "get better" as quickly as expected, and can be mistaken for depression. Or a combination of factors, such as stress in the family and stress at school can result in depression when the young person sees no way to solve the problems.

This is a very broad question in that there are thousands of different ways that certain teens deal with depression. The majority of teens either bundle up all that depression within themselves and never voice it to anyone, or do quite the opposite. The second option is generally better to take as it is that it is immensely helpful to just talk to someone about your deepest thoughts without the fear of being judged, or of others hearing about what you say through gossip, or without having to think about what the other person thinks about you and what you are saying. Of course, it is generally much better to talk with a therapist about these feelings, because they are trained professionals, and they are much less likely to judge you. Choosing the first option can make the depression worse, and eventually so unbearable that one may kill themselves. Suicide is a horrible solution, and it's unfortunately, the second most common cause of death among teens (behind automobile accidents). So if you are a teen and have depression, at least talk to someone about it.
