Before trying to turn on the ignition, check if the brakes are on. For cars with automatic transmission, make sure that it is in 'neutral' or 'park'. Some electrical contact cleaner followed by a little amount of silicon or liquid graphite may also be applied in order to flush away the dirt inside the lock cylinder.
