E bay, Amazon and those kind of websites sell power supplies. Generally it's the cheapest way to do it as well. You may have to pay for shipping/handling but if you look hard enough you may find one without shipping/handling fees. Shipping fees don't cost a lot generally.

How A power supply you suspect is faulty is to replace it?

It may be time for a new power supply if your computer keeps shutting down at random times, or gets hot very quickly, you may want to act fast in order to keep from your computer crashing.

Power supply makes a whistle noise and computer doesn't turn on?

This is caused by a blown capacitor. The electrolyte in the capacitor is boiling, and the capacitor has opened to vent the excess pressure. You will need to purchase a new power supply or have a computer technician do it for you.

If your PC does not start up when you push the power switch what should you look for to resolve the issue?

First, check to make sure that the computer is plugged in.If it isn't, then plug it in.If it is and you still have issues, you might have a power supply problem. In which case, you need to buy a new power supply and install it, or take your computer to a computer store and have them fix it.A power supply, when referring to computers, is that little fan/box thing that you plug the cord from the wall to the computer.

How can you troubleshoot your computer if it turns on and then turns off?

I've had this same problem myself. It's really easy to fix if you have an old computer or can get old parts. This will only work if you have a desktop pc. The problem may be in your power supply. It's the box inside your computer that the power cord goes into. I'm not promising that this is going to work, but it did for my. Just unscrew the power supply from you computer, unplug the cords from the motherboard and take out the plugs in your hard drive and cd-rom. Then screw the new power supply in and hook it up the same way your other was. That should fix the problem. I don't recommend buying a new power supply. An olld one does just fine. They may not be as compact, but it will do the trick.

Can you get info off computer with failed power supply?

Yes, as long as the rest of the computer is still intact (eg. motherboard, hard drive etc.) You can either: Get a new power supply for the computer and everything should work as normal (power up and everything) Take out the hard drive and put it into another computer to recover the data (there are many ways of doing this, try googling it - that should help.

How do you upgrade a power supply?

AnswerIt is fairly easy to upgrade the power supply unit (PSU) of most recent desktop computers. You'll need a screwdriver.* Pop open the case of the computer and check the dimensions of the power supply in the case (or the empty space available if the old power supply has already been removed). Most of the time, you'll find a "ATX 2.0" power supply, also called "ATX with a 24 pin connector", 150 × 86 × 140 mm (5.9 × 3.4 × 5.5 in). I like to take a "before" photograph that shows how everything is connected.* Obtain a new power supply. It needs to (a) fit in your case, (b) has the power rating you need, and ideally (c) has enough connectors for everything already in the box and also everything you plan on adding to the box.* Unplug the computer from all power sources.* Open the case, disconnect all the cables from the power supply to anything else, and take out all the screws holding the power supply in the case.* Pull out the old power supply, insert the new power supply.* Attach the new power supply to the case with the appropriate screws.* Connect the power cables between the power supply and everything that needs power.* This is where I review my "before" photograph, to make sure I didn't miss something.* Close the case, and plug the computer into a UPS connected to mains power.AnswerWhen adding more hard drives to a computer, or upgrading to a higher-powered graphics card, it may be necessary to upgrade the computer's power supply.Answeryes you can install a new power supply. but it wont affect performance what so everAnswerI disagree with the idea that upgrading a power supply doesn't improve performance. It does! Many video cards, hard drives, and assorted peripherals, over the years have had an increase in power consumption. The addition of powered USP ports has further taxed an older style power supply. The AGP architecture has reversed the power needs (4x to 8x) but with the addition of memory, and architectural differences on how memory uses power, the need for a higher wattage power supply is more conducive to a smoother running system. Further supporting this theory, you will find on the motherboard box or video card box, under "system requirements" they set a wattage requirement for the power supply in order to operate with out taxing the rest of the computer parts.

Is it cheaper to buy a new power supply or repair an older one?

It would be safer and to purchase a new power supply,a repaired power supply might pose a fire hazzard.

My computer's front panel switchLED light are not working but the CPU fan is running while the power supply is not and my computer will not boot Is my power supply faulty?

Connect the front panel molex's to every available connector (3-pin molex connector) Or get a new one. I am experiencing the same now.

What is the recommended wattage capacity for a power supply for?

If you have a 500 watt power supply and you want to put in a new video card. On the video card's box it will tell you how much power it needs. If it requires less power then you don't need to worry. If it says it requires more, you'll need a bigger power supply with large wattage otherwise you'll kill your computer.

My 'old' HP Pavilion laptop won't turn on. The lightning bolt light flashes repeatedly if I hold the power button but otherwise no response. And the power cord gets really HOT?

You are probably needed a new powers supply/charger. I would first check to see if the power supply/charge is working by testing it on another computer. If you don't have another computer to test, try some local computer shops, they might check it for free. My shop always test power supply for customers for free. If it comes out to be bad, then you would need to order a new one. If it comes out to be good, then i would take a look at the battery. That might be going as batteries only last for so long.
