Because the witness can't keep their story straight. If you think about it like this:

I'm a witness and I've just witnessed crime. If I start changing the story, then who is to say I'm telling the truth or not? As a witness, the story must be kept the same and not changed.

Can defendant be charged with intimidating witness in domestic violence if he made witness say he didn't abuse her?

Yes & No, if an Attorney has proof of this action the defence may or may nor be effected by it e.g. I walk up to and threatened you, no witnesses no case I walked up to and told you to keep your mouth shut or ill kill you and there are witnesses, that's a whole different story. this also depends in what country and state you live in.

What is the meaning of the idiom cross-examination?

It is courtroom jargon rather than an idiom. To cross-examine means for the other side in the case to question the same witness. The "cross" part is added because the goal of the other person questioning the person is opposite that of the first person to do so. If a defense attorney asks a witness what they saw and their description paints the defendant in a positive light, then the prosecutor will want to cross-examine the witness to try to find holes in the story or convince the courtroom that they didn't see what they claimed to have seen.

What is the Meaning of crystal moment by Robert coffin?

the story is told by a witness who is looking at the buck(deer) he sees him scared and the deer is scared because the wolves are chasing him. then the witness sees the hunter chasing the wolves. we do not know what happened after that because the witness(person telling the story) couldn't see anymore. then the witness tells us how beautiful the race of life and death is.
