Breast milk has the antibodies to viruses that the mother has had or been vaccinated for. Babies who eat breast milk will have the same immunity as their mothers. This is important because a baby is not born with a fully functioning immune system

No. Measles kiled thousands of children through the centuries. Walk through a very old cemetery and read the headstones of the children. You will find most are below 5 years old and diseases killed them. We are very lucky to have the medical science we have today, and it is ridiculous to allow old diseases to return and kill children once again.

Newborns have almost no immunity to any diseases. This is why it is so important not to go near a baby if you are sick. Immunity develops from getting the disease and recovering, or from getting a vaccine to prevent getting it.

A baby is born with some immunity through mother's blood. If the mother nurses, the baby gets added immunity against SOME common ailments IF the mother herself was exposed or was vaccinated. But without nursing, the maternal-blood immunities are short-lived.

Why are you Immune to Chickenpox but not to Measles?

The virus that causes Chicken Pox is different from the virus that causes Measles. If you receive the vaccination for Chicken Pox and not the vaccination for Measles, you are immune to the virus that causes Chicken Pox but have no immunity against the virus that causes Measles. Thus, while while Chicken Pox will not kill you from Reyes Syndrome, you might go blind from Measles. You should also get vaccinated for Measles. We can be immune to chicken pox as if the mother of a baby has had chicken pox the mother will pass temporary immunity to the baby. You can also have a vaccination. If you have chicken pox once it is unlikely you will have it again. But you can get measles more than once unless you get vaccinated. Measles are also more serious than chicken pox.

What are the vaccinations needed for a newborn baby to travel out of state?

No vaccinations are required for a newborn baby to travel out of state, but they may benefit your baby if there's a chance he could be exposed to certain diseases. Your doctor may suggest that you vaccinate your baby against childhood killers such as polio, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B, tetanus, measles, and haemophilus influenza type B (Hib).

What would give you short-term immunity?

passive immunity is short term it could either be from a mom giving the antibodies from her blood to the baby in her womb, and when the baby gets out, it still has some of the anitbodies to protect it (for a couple days/ months/ years) or antibodies are injected into a person (this is not a vaccine) to help cure the illness (rabies is an example of a disease where people inject the antibodies)
