If you have lost your GPS and you don't have a map, it's easiest to just ask the local people. The night sky and the position of the stars there can only tell you wether you're in the southern or northern hemisphere and the position of the sun at noon can - in combination with the time of year - tell you whether or not you are close or far from the Equator. But that is as specific as it gets.
