- the slit should be narrow-then only a few rays will fall on prism and overlapping of colors will be reduced.

-the rays emerging from the prism should be focused on the screen by an achromatic convex lens
-the prism should be placed in minimum deviation position w.r.t. the mean ray and the refracting edge of the prism should be parallel to the slit-focusing of different colors would be the sharpest.
