Nothing can show the "degree" of Down's Syndrome - except the life of the person with DS you're talking about.

DS has very different "degrees" of manifestations that can in no way be predicted.

Unfortunately the Triple (or quad) screen is not a diagnostic test. It is a screen that can give you the CHANCE of the baby having it, but cannot tell you for sure, which is what the amniocentesis does.

Yes, there are test that can be done to detect certain chromosomal problems in pregnancy. You should really look into these test and find the benefits and the risks involved in taking them. They claim to be able to tell, but the truth is, no one knows if your baby has DS until it is born.

2 different OBs told me they didn't recommend the test, because the results were often wrong.

I had a friend who did have the test performed around 23 weeks. The tests said her baby had DS. She was devastated and more tests were performed to confirm. All the tests lead to more complications. She gave birth to her baby at 26 weeks and her daughter did not have DS. All this could have been caused by taking tests that lied to her.

A small amount of fluid that surrounds a developing baby is removed. The fluid is analyzed to determine whether the baby will have a genetic disorder or not. :)

What is down syndrome mean?

Down syndrome, Down's syndrome, or trisomy 21 is a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome. It is named after John Langdon Down, the British Doctor Who described the syndrome in 1866. The disorder was identified as a chromosome 21 trisomy by Jérôme Lejeune in 1959. The condition is characterized by a combination of major and minor differences in structure. Often Down syndrome is associated with some impairment of cognitive ability and physical growth as well as facial appearance. Down syndrome in a baby can be identified with amniocentesis during pregnancy or at birth.
