How can anyone with any intelligence or understanding of science believe in god?

This is an interesting question, to which there are a multitude of answers. Many scientists, past and present, believe in a god of some kind, whether a specific God, such as the Christian one, or some form of 'higher being'. Notable Christians who are scientists might include Rev Dr. John Polkinghorne KBE, FRS (Theologian and Particle Physicist), as well as Dr. David Wilkinson (PhD in Astrophysics, PhD in Theology). Both have written extensively on the compatibility of science and religion. Dr Damadian, the inventor of MRI is a medical scientist who believes in God as does Dr John Baumgartner a world leader in the field of geological computer modeling in the field of plate tecktonics.
Often, people who say they believe in a god are merely "playing it safe" among their believer friends. It might be socially or politically advantageous to play the role of a Christian, for example, if you're a member of Congress and most of the people in your district are as well.

I dont believe anyone "invented" science, though science is just research and the curiosity of human nature that leads us to want to know more.

If there is no belief, there is no affect. Combat ignorance with knowledge and understanding. Become educated.
