Velocity tells us the speed at which an object is moving and the direction in which it is moving.
Astronomers are able to identify chemicals in distant space with the use of spectral analysis. This breaks the light apart into a spectrum and find either emission lines or absorption lines and identifies which elements are present.
We determine the types of elements contained in the star or within the corona by analyzing the spectrum of the light we receive. Each element will radiate at a set of specific discreet frequencies, and the frequencies they radiate tell us what the element is, and how deeply ionized it is. The spectral analysis is exact; we can even determine the proportions of the elements that we see by the relative brilliance of their light. But there IS one thing that the spectrum cannot tell us; is this a normal matter star, or an anti-matter star?
Analysis of colors from objects in space can help astronomers determine the object's temperature, composition, and age. Different colors indicate different chemical elements present in the object, as well as its evolutionary stage. By studying the colors, astronomers can gain valuable insights into the physical properties and processes occurring in space.
When two objects have the same velocity on a position graph, their position vs. time graphs will have parallel lines with the same slope. This indicates that both objects are covering the same distance in the same amount of time, resulting in the same velocity.
If you call it "velocity" then you have to tell what direction it points.If you only tell how fast it is but you don't tell the direction, then it's "speed", not velocity.
Red shift is the apparent elongation of the wavelength of light reaching us from distant sources of light due to the expansion of space in between. The amount of red shift can be used to work out the recessional velocity of a galaxy and it's distance from us.
Because of its velocity (velocity is the rate of change of position), an object will move. An object is stationary if it has no velocity because it will not be able to move without velocity. Therefore, you can tell that an object has moved because of velocity.
You check out the speed and direction, and times them together, and it will tell you the velocity of the object.
Weight is due to gravitational forces between two objects. A single object inspace without another one reasonably nearby, or even in gravitational free-falltoward another object, is weightless. So you can not weigh an object in space.Determining the mass of objects in space is another matter.
