Think about it, how would your life be if you knew you weren't going to live tomorrow? Most people would say that it is depressing. You would feel no need to do anything because you would know that, by tomorrow, you'll be dead, and everything you did the day before lead to absolutely nothing.
That's pretty much the opposite side side of having a lot of goals. Goals give you motivation. For example, If someone who was studying in school said to themselves " pfff... this homework is boring", they'd be pretty depressed right?
Now if someone said "this homework is boring, but it's going to help me get into college!" they'd be a lot happier doing it.
