If the lid has a handle with exposed rivets, very carefully drill a tiny hole right through one rivet. That will break the vacuum that holds the lid to the stove. Later, a screw can be inserted into the drilled hole if necessary. Perhaps the hole will need to be made to a specific size to accomodate a small screw.
