First a thought experiment:

* Think of your bank account. Assume you never put anything into it only withdraw.

* Think of buying something - a set dishes,- whatever * After one use you throw them out * The next time you want to have supper you buy a new set of dishes * Think of doing this for everything you own. * Your bank account will crash in no time, then you will have no dishes at all, and no way to get any That's you without recycling.

A second thought experiment:

* Think of your bank account. Assume you shop for good interest rates and make periodic injections of money.

* Think of buying something - a set of dishes,- whatever * You use it over and over again.

* When you're tired of it you sell it at a garage sale and put the cash in the bank

* The next time you want to have supper you buy a set of dishes at a discount store, a neighbor's garage sale, or on sale so they're cheaper.

* Think of doing this for everything you own. * Your bank account will last a long time That's you with recycling, resource recovery and good stewardship.

The environment is like your bank account. There's only so much goodness in it. This includes fresh air and water, Natural Resources, agricultural land, etc.

If you do not do the R's (Recycle, Recover, Reuse) you are depleting the bank of the environment faster than if you take from it sparingly and reinvest or recreate the materials you use up.
